Imitation

I got this pair of retro-looking spectacles from a company DnD. Hee... Looks cute on En huh?

En loves to imitate the adults at home. He will slip his toddler's tiny feet into his grandmother's house slippers and flop around with them. Never mind that they are twice each foot's length and with each step he takes unsteadily, he threatens to trip over them. He will also wear my shoes, pa pa's shoes and grandmother's shoes and try walking around in them. Everytime he wears a chequered shirt, he will say its Grandpa's shirt cos my dad always wears chequered shirts!

Kids really imitate their parents or caregivers so we have to be careful what we say and do. I once uttered "Alamak" accidentally and he thought it was a really funny word so he kept repeating it and laughing each time he said it. This is really the time to keep the profanities away (not that I speak a lot of them!). Even when we wish to criticise other people, we have to watch our tongues cos our little ones are abosrbing and learning our value systems. Its timely I guess that we also watch our tongue as the book of James in the bible does say that our tongues are deceitful and can cause a forest to be on fire (i.e., cause huge damage!).

Nursery Rhymes

En has a few favourite nursery rhymes (in order of his most favourite ones):
1. Humpty Dumpty
2. Little Miss Muffet
3. Jack and Jill
4. Baa Baa Black Sheep

I must say he really got into this thanks to his Wheel on the Bus DVD series + this colourful nursery rhyme book I got him from Borders. For quite a while, he was able to say the last word of each sentence for each rhyme. Now, for his most favourite ones, Humpty Dumpty and Little Miss Muffet, I was pleasantly surprised to catch him reciting almost the whole rhyme when left to himself. When I try to get him to repeat it for me, he will usually not be able to do it either becos he is really cheeky and changes the words in the rhyme or he doesn't like to perform!

I thought I would take a picture of the Jack and Jill rhyme and have it recorded for posterity in case the drawing has to come down one day :) Not too bad huh? :)

Bubbles

I bought this bubbles set from Toys R Us a few weeks back. It comes with a star-shaped as well as a circle-shaped bubble blower and a bottle of bubble detergent. En LOVES playing with bubbles! Just last week, his aunty came over and she volunteered to blow bubbles for him. He had a whale of a time chasing the bubbles as they floated around. He gets really excited chasing bubbles. He will scream in thrill as he chases each bubble and he will try to burst them! He played till he was really quite "high". That night, he woke up several times crying. So much for fun in the evening and nightmares at night! :)

Turning 2 Series - Fireman!

We brought En En to the Central Fire Station a few weeks back, on a Saturday morning. The visit is free, both to the compound with all the fire engines and to the museum. I think he had fun even though the fire engines were blaring away and the water pressure coming from the water hose was too high and scared him a bit! He got a chance to put on the real fireman's helmet (really heavy, sticky and sweaty!) and put his hands to the fire engine's driving wheel! What a treat for a toddler who's not even turned two!

We bought him a fire helmet ($10) but quite good plastic material! He loves it and we have been playing fireman since he returned from the visit. I must give praise to the Duplo set makers. Every child gets to fulfil his imaginations. The pictures show papa helping En to build a rescue vehicle. We have since put out "fires" throughout our home. Ma ma is sometimes on fire, sometimes her bed or the sofa is on fire. For the water hose, we just use an elongated cardboard pipe! En will go around spraying water on items on fire. He has also rescued dogs and people trapped under their lego vehicles!

Shall post more on his other interested professions later! :)
